I was recently in Paris for vacation and as life goes there is really no vacation from parenting – in fact I spent my time reading parenting books. And Bringing Up Bebe (on French parenting ironically) was great for me. It showed me a side to parenting where your world doesn’t revolve around your kid.
When I first got pregnant so many people told me to remember to be a wife and not just a mom. No problem right? Actually it was a bigger challenge than I thought and I found myself all about the kids with little to no energy to be a wife. I wanted to be the best mom possible, I took it as a very serious full time job. As in “kids leave me alone I am trying to read a book to learn how to parent”. The particular book gave me a great insight on another way to parent.
