Luxe Life – As A Mom

May 5, 2011

I can pretty much guarantee that my mom never bought herself anything fancy - with her it was kids first.  For instance she doesn't own an LV bag and the Prada and Marc Jacobs she does own - I bought her.  What she did get she wasn't "willing down" in her mind as she pulled out the credit card. When I found out we were having a second daughter I panicked - who would get my engagement ring, my diamond bands, my handbag collection - I had to expand it immediately.  Thank god SJP and Posh Read more [...]

The Name Game

May 5, 2011

Baby naming has been coming up a lot lately - because we are expecting a baby and we have not announced a name.  They say you will know when you see the baby - this is a fib.  Ila looked like a little Eskimo when she was born.  Dark skin and thick black hair.  If we had named her based on her "look" she might have been named: Akkilokipok, meaning soft snow. That is the translation on lla Katz to Eskimo. I knew I wanted Ila as her name since the beginning I told everyone because Read more [...]

In The Hospital – But Not To Have The Baby

May 5, 2011

As you can see by this photo this is exactly why I wanted a bang up makeup job, hilights and a mani/pedi before I went in for my c section.  I wanted to avoid pictures like this. I am here because my diabetes is out of control and they want to get that wrangled along with monitoring the baby. Everyone said go to the hospital and rest - take a break.  That sounded nice.  But they wake me every hour to check my blood, I am hooked to a fetal monitor and two IV's and so I am not exactly at The Read more [...]

For Those Of You Who Want Your Babie’s Initials Around Your Neck

I forgot about the Elsa Perreti letter pendents in sterling and gold.  A fun way to wear something in honor of your little one.  I know there are many "mommy necklaces" out there but I love this classic look. Read more [...]

Happy Mother’s Day – Ode To Mom

May 3, 2011

Did you ever think something under ten pounds could exhaust you so very much?  That you would be peeing with someone holding on to your leg?  That you could love something so much you would literally die for them.... Someone who exhausts you all day but then you miss them when they finally go to sleep - you watch them on the monitor and sometimes "accidentally" wake them up. You would give up everything that says dry clean only  - for a new wardrobe of washable cottons.  Have a massage Read more [...]

Respect Yourself So Your Kid Will Respect You

April 30, 2011

There are a lot of selfless mothers out there.  Who become moms and forget to be wives or even take care of themselves.  It goes back to the in flight oxygen mask scenario - put yours on and then your childs. I have been reading parenting books and they all they say the same thing - you can't expect your child to respect you if you don't respect yourself.  Whether it be getting mommy time, setting limits so you actually get to eat your own meal.  Running out for a manicure.  You should Read more [...]

Baby Vacation

Ila and I went to Palm Desert with a friend and their son.  It turned out to be super relaxing.  They loved having each other as playmates.  We let them run around the yard naked and took them swimming.  Bought yummy snacks for the house - my friend had wine after we tucked them in (I wished I could) and we ate cheesecake.  We ate breakfast on the porch and they loved being naked. Ila took a poop naked and began to cry (as our baby group leader said they would) because it is a scary sensation Read more [...]

Baby Registry – Should You Buy From It?

April 24, 2011
By
A good guy friend of mine called me because he was invited to a coed baby shower.  He was asking me what to get them for a gift.  I asked if there was a registry ... he had no idea.  I told him my thoughts.  Before I had a baby I was anti-registry ... I wanted to get something posh and creative, not a baby bath or wipe warmer. Plus it was way more fun to shop for a gift than just click a box on diapers.com. Then I got pregnant and I realized people register for things they need.  And Read more [...]

Babymoon Update

April 24, 2011
By
Today we arrived home from our babymoon.  We went to Palm Springs where we sat by the pool, had nice meals, foot massages and slept whenever we wanted. The recharge was amazing.  And much needed, although we still woke up at 7am even without Ila and we ended up coming home at noon instead of three because we missed Ila. But, it was great all around - my mom got special time with her grand daughter, Ila bonded with her grandma and my hubby and I got a break.  And as excited as I am to be Read more [...]

Why Mother’s Day Is So Great…

April 24, 2011
By
Mother's Day has become my new favorite holiday.  I feel this way because I have really earned it.  Everyone gets Christmas and Chanukah, and my birthday just happens to be the day my mom went into labor. But ... Mother's Day is not only to celebrate the day I suffered through labor, it is to celebrate what we do as moms day in and day out. And that is hard work.  I feel like it is truly an important day to celebrate.  As a mom and a daughter. Read more [...]
