So as I discussed previously children’s handwriting skills are being lost by the day. Kids are typing and texting and ipad’ing and they don’t need to write. In fact they barely learn and practice cursive anymore. I make my girls write Thank You notes. But I also got them a chalkboard they know I love to write, in fact I have a weird tick where I have to use a special kind of pen and often paper. But the girls think the chalkboard is so fun they forget they are practicing writing. Which they are! We also write on sidewalks. Anything to encourage the art of hand writing.
This became a huge concern when my 14-year-old brother came over and I saw his handwriting I was shocked it looked like a 3rd grader. And it was actually not abnormal – kids just don’t write that much anymore. I started investigating and it was true cursive is a lost art and printing is not far behind. But they sure can text!
